Instructional Programs of Choice

Dear 菠菜网lol正规平台 Parents and Families,  

As I shared in previous communications, Long Beach Unified School District will start school with distance learning until at least Oct. 5, 2020.  Per Gov. Newsom’s order, school may not resume in person until Los Angeles County is removed from the state’s COVID-19 Monitoring List for 14 days. When students are able to return to school, it will look different than it did before the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to comply with the Governor’s orders and health and safety requirements. 

If we are able to provide the option of students returning, in-person, to an all-day or hybrid model, we will need to be ready in advance. This will require that every 菠菜网lol正规平台 family make a choice between instructional options that can be activated at any time. Parents/guardians will need to choose the option most appropriate for their child and family. A summary of the learning models is available on the re-enrollment survey in ParentVue.

You are receiving this information because an Instructional Program of Choice survey has been activated in all ParentVue accounts. ALL parents MUST make a selection between the in-person model, or all online virtual learning model, for each child for the school year. As a reminder, the in-person model can only be activated once Los Angeles is off the state watch list. Parents must respond to the survey by Aug. 7 so that classes may be established and teachers assigned. Please note, if an education program is not selected, students will be enrolled in the in-person model which includes the following:

• All staff and students will be required to wear face coverings. 

• Physical distancing will be in place in every classroom.

• There will be a daily health screening upon entry to schools.

• Support will be provided for students’ social emotional development, and opportunities will be provided for interaction between students, as well as between students and staff.

• An additional benefit to in-person schooling is that the teacher has access to students throughout the day for ongoing support of student learning, assessments and interventions.

If you select a virtual learning experience for your child, this will be a year-long online schooling option. Similar to in-person schooling, students will be placed in all online classes that will be taught by highly qualified, certificated teachers. This option includes the following:

• High quality standards-based instructional programs will be provided that prepare students to return to school in person for the 2021-22 school year.

• Assignments will be posted weekly with consistent due dates.

• Students will be required to attend live teaching sessions with a full day of learning.

During these uncertain times, 菠菜网lol正规平台 remains committed to providing our students with the highest quality educational experience possible. Our goal is to return to school as soon as we can do so in a healthy, protective and safe manner, as determined by state and county health officials.
