Coronavirus Update: School in Session, Some Activities Canceled

Dear Long Beach Unified School District Families,

Thank you for all of the ways that you are taking care of your students and family members during this time of health concern in our community and around the world. We are doing everything we can to mitigate the potential spread of the new coronavirus, while also being prepared for quick action to address any potential specific instances involving our students and families.

Our efforts this week have included increased sanitizing of high-touch areas with approved antibacterial products, reminding families of the need to keep students home if they are demonstrating any flu like symptoms, and reinforcing continued use of universal precautions, especially handwashing, to be used by all staff members, students and visitors. Over the coming weekend, all schools will have custodial staff working in them to do additional sanitizing.

菠菜网lol正规平台 has multiple senior staff and district departments assigned to decision making regarding the coronavirus, and they are interacting with the Long Beach Health Department multiple times a day. Long Beach Health Department staff have been available to us to discuss every potential concern that has arisen, to provide guidance in our decision-making and to share factual information pertaining to potential community risks.

Our school district website at 837147.com has a set of Frequently Asked Questions & Answers, based on input from parents, staff and community members. This FAQ will be updated with new questions and information on a regular basis.

Of immediate note, we are now taking the additional precautions of canceling:

  • All large indoor school events
  • All Saturday academic programming (with the exception of “for credit” courses) and "Super Saturday" playground programs
  • All district professional development that causes staff to leave their campus
  • All nonessential districtwide parent and community meetings

We are also in the process of canceling the use of school facilities by outside organizations.

Sports events will go forward with only the essential staff needed, not spectators.

We know that many of you are concerned about this issue, and we are working tirelessly to ensure that our students are safe and healthy.

Sincerely,

Christopher J. Steinhauser
Superintendent of Schools
