Members of Jordan High School’s choir, band and orchestra will soon travel to New York City to perform at Carnegie Hall, one of the most iconic music venues in the world.

The opportunity comes after the students were invited to participate in a festival hosted by National Concerts, an organization that provides unique performance experiences for choirs, bands and orchestras in renowned venues across the United States.

Last summer, students from Jordan submitted a video application for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with National Concerts.

“[The students] were very excited and were proud of the work they put in,” Jordan’s choir director JJ Garcia shared with the Long Beach Post regarding the news.

“We do a lot of work in that classroom getting them prepared for concerts. So it was a moment of gratitude, but also a moment of recognition. They got that feeling that they’ve succeeded in the work they’ve put into the class,” Garcia said.

An article from the Long Beach Post shares the participating Panthers will have “the chance to work with a composer-in-residence, performing a brand-new piece written just for the concert" during their trip.

The students will also “get the chance to learn and perform alongside students from across the country, creating a unique blend of cultures and backgrounds in one of the most diverse cities in the world.”

Since its opening in 1891, Carnegie Hall has served as a stage for many of the world’s finest artists. The venue’s website names “Tchaikovsky, Dvořák, Mahler and Bartók to George Gershwin, Billie Holiday, Benny Goodman, Judy Garland and The Beatles” as some of their most notable performances.
